Declaration of Support
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Szeged International Biblical Conference and on the basis of its fertile ecumenical dialogue on the Bible, we announce that we confirm our presence at the Conference and willingly maintain it also for the future. We will assist the organizing with our advice and with our proposals concerning the Hungarian and foreign lecturers who should be invited to the Conference.
In the past 24 years, the Szeged International Biblical Conference has had 3873 visitors, 362 lectures have been given, we have received 140 foreign professors as lecturers, the lectures of whom have been published in 21 volumes, and it has also been the inspirer of the thought of translating the Jerome Bible Commentary into Hungarian with the leadership of Attila Thorday.
In the past 24 years, the Szeged International Biblical Conference has gained fame all over Europe: it is scored and appreciated by several foreign scholarly workshops. As a result, the 69th International World Conference of SNTS, the greatest academic institute of New Testament researchers will be organized for the first time in Hungary, more precisely in Szeged, following the formal invitation of Bishop László Kiss-Rigó and by the Rector of the University of Szeged, Gábor Szabó.
We wish to express our respect to the former supporters of the conference: to Prelate Géza Valentiny posthumously, to former Diocesan Endre Gyulay, to the co-president of the Conference Archbishop György Jakubinyi, to the President-Rector of Pázmány Péter Catholic University Szabolcs Anzelm Szuromi and to all our former supporters.
The undersigned express their satisfaction considering the fact that the Szeged International Biblical Conference has been a pioneer in opening its gates to the colleges of the Church over the borders of Hungary by inviting lecturers from who live as members of a minority there and thus providing them an opportunity to give a lecture and become known. And when representatives of the Jewish community and Muslim theologians were also invited, the Conference also contributed to a peaceful but at the same time unbiased interreligious dialogue.
We wish the blessing of the Almighty to the future life of the Szeged International Biblical Conference.
